The message somehow ends up showing up in a bottle washed up against the shore actually. Which is a pretty weird way to deliver a message but of course, it's thematic. Naturally, it'll only show up when nobody else is around. When walking along the beach, Prussia will find that bottle right there, waiting for them.
The message Prussia receives is short and simple:
Need you for something. Come see me this evening. You'll know where to go.
- Hal
P.S. Put the note back in the bottle. Throw it back. I'll know if you don't.
And that's it. Of course, if they choose to listen to their message, they'll find a mysterious path in the jungle. They'll find the path as if guided to it, even though it won't be there if they try to show it to someone else later. And at the end of the path, they'll find a small hut, tucked against the jungle backdrop and the two Chiefs standing in front of it. Hal greets them with a flat look and a greeting:
Waylayer.
And then he holds out a small notebook, weather-worn and a little salty. Looks like they've been chosen for one of those roles that were mentioned. Good luck.
[ And here is Hal, pulling out an island pipe from his pocket and beginning to pack it with tobacco. Eventually he'll light it up so he can take a nice little puff from it. Pal is also here and he looks displeased by the smoke. ]
[The young-looking woman with the German accent isn't grinning cheerily at the moment. Instead, she just looks disgusted and rather annoyed, carelessly waving the notebook.]
Let's start with the first one. The fuck do I get outta this? You give me some shitty-ass role and expect me to just what, play along for the hell of it? Don't see how this gives me any kinda advantage in your stupid game.
[They've built statues to her charm you know!! Also to her heroism, so good work, Pal.]
Well when you put it that way.... Wait, no!! I'm not just accepting this!! Maybe I don't got anyone to protect, and I can only protect myself every other week. That's dumb!
I at least want like, an awesome diary or something for doin' this for you.
Hey, lucky for you guys, I totally match that description. There's nobody more fun than me!
[No.....]
Anyway, I'm gonna look out for Newt's group this week. Since you said I can't do the same pair twice in a row, right? Erhard's out, so it's gotta be Newt.
[Nebulously after Lief told Prussia about his and Jacopo's harebrained scheme but before they leave to actually do it-]
I'm breaking Laphicet and Jacopo this week.
[Gone is the smart grin, the false camaraderie. If anything, she looks like a soldier for once; her accent is crisper, too, cooler and sharper to match the line of her lips.]
Alright don't fuck around with me today or I'll break my partnership with Lief and shoot you guys for real. Can I wait until we find out who bites it to reassign Zuko, or do I have to have it done before we find out who's dead?
Just like the partner breaking, s'gotta be done before someone dies. That's just the way the game works--it won't count if you tried when you already know.
[ He shakes his head, offering a smile. ]
Why dontcha try to use it for a reason for once? Ya know, like getting rid of the Sirens faster, if you know who they are. Guess you'd have to have a good idea of who they are for that, though.
So I decided I'm gonna assign Zuko to Katara, since you still won't tell us what happened to that poor Ruby kid. Gonna break Magilou and Lucina, just in case Jaffar's stupidity put a target on her back.
I'm still thinkin' about who I'm gonna reassign, but pretty sure one of your Sirens is gunnin' for me this week. It's what I'd do!! So I'm breakin' mine and Lief's partnership for the first time.
There's nobody as can beat me in a fair fight here, but feel like it's probably isn't gonna be a fair fight, huh?
Probably not. [ Pal will go ahead and shrug and acknowledge that, because it's pretty obvious that that's how it tends to go.. what's fair, can they eat it, etc. ]
But you got it. Lief and you, partnership broken, if one of y'all dies, the other'll be fine, as per usual.
WEEK ONE
So, yeah. Any questions?

Pal seems unperturbed, though. The smile's still there. ]
You don't got anyone you want to protect? Taking care of their partner gives them a 50% improved chance of not dying, ya know.
Same goes for you.
In a way, you kinda hold their lives in your hands. Almost like a hero.

[She rests a hand on her hip.] So how many more people have a role like mine? I hate sharing glory.

Besides, what if I wanna help the Sirens? We don't know which way is the right way to win the game yet.
